A unique story
A history of women
since 1580.
“Today, we are with Basile, Timour, Vassili, Vadim and Till, the custodians of this magical place, but this family history did not begin yesterday. It is a unique story, of an estate run by women for over 400 years.”
Where it all begins
In 2005, fate brought me together with Larrivaux permanently.
Because it is not just a job, but a true passion.
A unique story
Since 1580, Château Larrivaux has been part of the history of Haut-Médoc, in the heart of a terroir renowned for its character and richness. Passed down from generation to generation by the women of our family, the estate has preserved its identity, heritage and art de vivre.
1651
Pomiers
From the 17th century onwards, the noble house of Larrivaux belonged to the Pomiers family, lords of Le Breuil and advisers to the king. They are the first identified owners of the estate in the archives and laid the foundations for the lineage that has retained Larrivaux to this day.
1679
De Veissière de la Barre
At the end of the 17th century, Jacques de Veissière de la Barre, squire and officer of the king, acquired the noble house of Larrivaux. He, then his son Nicolas and his grandson Jacques, developed the estate and ensured its transmission. All the families that followed are direct descendants of this lineage, the true common thread running through the history of Larrivaux.
1701
De Chadirac
Jacques de Veissière’s alliance with Isabeau de Chadirac brought this family into the succession. The de Chadiracs continued the genealogical line, strengthening the Veissière lineage’s roots in Bordeaux, which was responsible for passing on the estate.
1720
De Marin de saint-palais
The next generation joined the Marin de Saint-Palais family when Nicolas de Veissière married Marie-Hippolyte de Marin de Saint-Palais. Their daughter continued the lineage, ensuring the continuity of the estate within the direct descendants of the Veissière family.
XViiie
Le Gentil de Paroy
Marie Rosalie Victoire de Veissière inherited the estate and married Louis Jean Marie Le Gentil de Paroy, Vice-Admiral. Through their union, Larrivaux entered the Le Gentil de Paroy family, while remaining a direct descendant of the Veissière family. Their daughter Clémentine continued the family tradition.
1767
de Chabot de Maulévrier
Clémentine Le Gentil de Paroy married Pierre Esprit Lubin de Magne, then their daughter Lydie married Count Fernand du Hamel. In the next generation, the estate passed to the Chabot de Maulévrier family, who had a profound influence on Larrivaux in the 19th century. However, the property remained in the same line founded by the Veissière family.
1816
De magne
Through the marriage of Clémentine Le Gentil de Paroy and Pierre Esprit Lubin de Magne, the Magne family became part of the estate’s succession. Their daughter Lydie de Magne ensured the continuity of the inheritance and kept Larrivaux in the same family line.
1836
Du hamel
Lydie de Magne married Guy Emmanuel Octave du Hamel, mayor of Bordeaux. Their son, Count Fernand du Hamel, born at Château Larrivaux, continued the family legacy. The du Hamel branch is one of the essential links in the chain of transmission of the estate.
1862
Desmoulins de Leybardie
Through marriage, the Desmoulins family of Leybardie joined the lineage when a descendant of the Hamel family married into it. Their daughter would in turn pass on the estate, maintaining the integrity of the family inheritance.
XXe
de carheil
Sabine de Chabot de Maulévrier passed the estate on to her daughter Huguette de Carheil, a direct descendant of all the previous families. Huguette ensured the château’s continuity into the 20th century and prepared to pass it on to her own daughters.
1899
Chabot de maulevrier
Alice Marie Lydie du Hamel married Jean-Auguste de Chabot de Maulévrier. Through her, Larrivaux returned to the Chabot de Maulévrier family. Her daughter Sabine de Chabot de Maulévrier would be the last representative of this branch before it passed to the Carheil family.
2005
Bérangère Tesseron
Today, the estate belongs to Bérangère Tesseron, heir to this unbroken line dating back more than four centuries. She is a direct descendant of the Veissière de la Barre, Marin, Paroy, Magne, du Hamel, Chabot and Carheil families, and continues the family history of Château Larrivaux.
2005
Les Tesseron
Since 2005, I have been managing Château Larrivaux and proudly continuing this family history, keeping alive the traditions that have shaped the place. The art of hospitality and cooking, dear to the women of our lineage, remains at the heart of our values today.
